Photography
No meteorologist should be stuck behind the screen of a computer. To appreciate weather one must experience it first hand and go out into the turmoil (very bad philosophy, the Weather Goddess is not liable if you are blown away). The following is a collection of my photography over the years. More photos and videos will be uploaded as I search through years of SD cards. Depending on the weather, there will be gaps where I won’t upload photos as often. No one wants to see thousands of pictures of Toronto snow for example. Very depressing. 🙁
Lightning
I enjoy capturing lightning strikes but it is a bit tricky. Luckily I have a GoPro camera to do most of the hard work for me. Many times I will aim my camera into an approaching storm but will not get any lightning strikes on film. The lightning from the storm will be striking in the complete opposite direction from where my camera is pointing (Murphy’s Law).
Ice and Snow
Being in Canada I have gained an appreciation for winter, both in the beauty and the need for snow tires. The following are pictures from various snow and ice storms that have gone through St. John’s Newfoundland.

Hurricane Leslie (2012)
Damage photos taken in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Leslie made landfall in south-central Newfoundland. Upon making landfall Leslie underwent extratropical transition but retained the winds of a category 1 hurricane. The following images were taken surrounding my residence in St. John’s, Newfoundland as the storm passed by from September 11 – 12, 2012.
